BUREAU FASHION: NYC Fashion Week Kickoff Dinner

Magician David Blaine helped a fashion-heavy crowd kick off New York Fashion Week a bit early Tuesday night with a dinner on the Flatiron rooftop of ASMALLWORLD Chairman Patrick Liotard-Vogt.

The magician wowed a crowd of fashion and social notables including Lorenzo Martone, Waris Ahluwalia, Fernanda Motta, Devon Aoki, Maria Cornejo and Mark Borthwick, Sam Shipley and Jeff Halmos of Shipley and Halmos, Claude Morais and Brian Wolk of Ruffian, Christopher Kunz of Nicholas K, creative sisters Poppy and Daisy de Villeneuve, Sabine Heller, Serena Merriman, Chessy Wilson, Bonnie Morrison, Ashley Wick, Sean Macpherson and Rachelle Hruska, Eric Villency, Frances Tulk-Hart, Jon Neidich, Kyle Hotchkiss Carone, Jennifer Pastore and Karen Duffy. Blaine, who met Liotard-Vogt through a mutual involvement with cancer charity F Cancer (the dinner was in support of the organization), greeted his host with a trick: when he arrived, Blaine hugged Liotard-Vogt and subsequently told him to check his back pocket, where he would find his watch.

He also showed off a variety of card tricks and helped many of the fashionistas in the crowd bend a quarter with their bare hands. But there was one trick Blaine could not pull off, at least not right away: improve the already-impressive view from Liotard Vogt's Moroccan-themed rooftop (designed by Guini Suarez of DeKar Design, the decorator behind West Village restaurant BoBo). "I asked him to make this building vanish," the host said, pointing to a building that obstructs his view of the Empire State Building.
