More Hannibal Lector?

Producer Dino de Laurentiis spoke to MTV and said that he is interested in making more "Hannibal Lecter" movies:You'd better break out some fava beans and a nice Chianti, because if Hannibal Rising super-producer Dino de Laurentiis has his way, the fourth story - five if you count remakes - about Hannibal Lecter is just beginning.

"I presume that we created a success with this new franchise about young Hannibal Lecter, and I want to start to think about going ahead with the story," de Laurentiis told MTV News. With this month's "Rising," fans learn the origins of Anthony Hopkins' classic Silence of the Lambs character, who is played in the new film by Gaspard Ulliel. De Laurentiis says Hannibal could become an even bigger evil superstar with more series installments. "How many James Bond [movies are] there? ... Every two years a James Bond movie [seemingly] comes out," de Laurentiis reasoned, adding that any future Lecter story would likely center on the unusual relationship between Lecter and his "Rising" love interest, Gong Li. "You see in the movie that ... it's an attraction, but nothing serious happens," de Laurentiis said. "In the future, maybe something happens, if we go with [another sequel]."

We saw this on the web today and thought we would share this with our readers, this is a great Newsweek roundtable with some of today's Hollywood Royalty.

Source: Newsweek

Hollywood Royalty
Only one actor at our Oscar Roundtable really played a monarch. (Unless a zany tyrant counts.) But they all ruled in their 2006 films, and they certainly know how to hold an audience.

By Sean Smith and David Ansen, Newsweek

Jan. 29, 2007 issue - Security was tight. For the first time, NEWSWEEK'S annual roundtable was held in public, at the Egyptian Theater in Hollywood. We made sure to keep a few of the celebrities' names secret, and arranged for all of them to arrive via an inconspicuous side entrance to the theater. So imagine our surprise when Brad Pitt—the most paparazzi-hounded star on the planet—was dropped off on Hollywood Boulevard and strode blithely through the theater's front doors, disguised only by a pair of sunglasses.

Onstage, Pitt was joined by five other remarkable actors of 2006: Cate Blanchett, Forest Whitaker, Helen Mirren, Penelope Cruz and Leonardo DiCaprio.

Needless to say, the audience was buzzing. But so were the stars, who listened with obvious delight as their fellow actors discussed their lives, their craft, their passions and their fears. Pitt teased DiCaprio, who said he didn't appreciate being seen as "a piece of cute meat" after Titanic. "That you are," Pitt told him. Blanchett, who played Brad's wife in Babel, took some friendly potshots at Pitt's work ethic. They all schmoozed and laughed and asked each other questions for more than two hours—yes, bathroom breaks were permitted—and when time ran out, they didn't seem to want to stop. Neither did we.

Sundance Film Festival

Sundance founder Robert Redford never meant for his beloved film festival to turn into one giant swag suite for the likes of Paris Hilton. Redford has always meant the festival to be an anti-Hollywood celebration of American independent film. Last year, Paris Hilton was followed around town by a wild pack of paparazzi as she scooped up thousands of dollars worth of swag, including everything from skimpy lingerie to the latest tech gadgetry. This year there is NO Paris; instead we have party monster Tara Reid, the actress best known for boozing heavily and surviving botched plastic surgery.

Winona Ryder attended a screening of The Ten – the film is a spoof of The Ten Commandments and critics were in stitches over the politically incorrect subject matter. With its star-filled cast, the David Wain-directed flick is one of the films with the biggest buzz this year. Alongside Ryder, the film co-stars Paul Rudd, Jessica Alba and Adam Brody.

The world premiere of Year of the Dog got a warm reception from a packed house on Saturday. The film stars Molly Shannon in a dramatic role, and is the directorial debut of Mike White, who wrote The School of Rock and The Good Girl. The large ensemble cast was there to cheer him on, including John C. Reilly, Regina King and Peter Sarsgaard. White said the film's premiere was triumphant because he felt he'd spent months slaving in the kitchen and could now shout out: "Dinner's ready!"

With all the talk about independent film and the celebrities at Sundance, everyone seems to forget about the surrounding landscape - the lovely ski resort town of Park City. The Park City ski resort is headquartered right in the middle of town, one of its chairlifts literally floats over the town's main drag.

Teri Hatcher, the Desperate Housewives star, has also been seen about town, as has Gina Gershon, Catherine Keener, Tom Arnold and Bradley Whitford.

2007 Golden Globe Awards

Movies

The film version of the Broadway musical Dreamgirls took home three 2007 Golden Globe Awards including Best Motion Picture - Musical or Comedy. Stars Jennifer Hudson and Eddie Murphy, who play Effie White and James "Thunder" Early respectively, also took home trophies in the supporting acting categories. Dreamgirls, which was nominated for five Golden Globes, has earned $67 million in five weeks of release.

The other major 2007 Golden Golden winners in the film categories included Babel (Best Motion Picture - Drama), Meryl Streep (Best Actress - The Devil Wears Prada), Helen Mirren (Best Actress - The Queen), Sacha Baron Cohen (Best Actor - Borat), Forest Whitaker (Best Actor - The Last King of Scotland) and Martin Scorsese (Best Director - The Departed).

Television

The Golden Globes were very ugly - Ugly Betty, that is. The new series about an everyday young woman working at a chic fashion magazine was named best comedy series, while its star America Ferrera won best actress in a comedy. Former SNL star Tina Fey's new sitcom 30 Rock was also a winner on the night: its star Alec Baldwin was awarded best actor in a comedy for his portrayal of an eccentric TV network executive. The smash hit medical series Grey's Anatomy won best drama series, though its lead star Ellen Pompeo missed out on best actress in a drama. That award went to Kyra Sedgwick for The Closer, while Hugh Laurie won best actor in a comedy for his work in House. Elizabeth I, the miniseries about the English queen which aired on the ABC in 2006, won a spate of awards: not only was it deemed best TV movie or miniseries, its stars Helen Mirren and Jeremy Irons respectively won best actress and best supporting actor in a TV movie or miniseries. Mirren also won an award for playing Elizabeth II in The Queen.

Golden Globe Parties

Traffic on the LA freeways may have prevented him from arriving at the Golden Globe Awards in time to receive his award for best song, but Prince created some serious celebrity gridlock afterwards as stars rushed to attend his post-Globe party at the Forbes Penthouse in Beverly Hills. The guest list included power couples Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes, Jennifer Lopez and Marc Anthony, and Demi Moore and Ashton Kutcher; as well as famous exes Cameron Diaz and Justin Timberlake. Timberlake was lucky that his invitation wasn’t rescinded after accepting the best song Golden Globe award on Prince’s behalf by stooping down to mock his short stature.

INSIDE NOTE:
According to both People magazine and the New York Post’s Page Six, Timberlake and Diaz got into a heated argument during Prince’s bash, despite having spoken cordially to each other during the Globe telecast and at InStyle’s annual afterparty earlier in the evening.
Witnesses say that Timberlake was talking to actress Jessica Biel when Diaz rolled up. Biel smartly walked away and left the former lovers to argue in front of everyone.Soon, they took their spat into a side room, where the shouting match reportedly continued for another 40 minutes. When they came up for air, Diaz was reportedly composed, while Timberlake held his head in his hands and “slammed his fist (down) into a cabinet,” a witness told People. Other stars at the party inside the Beverly Wilshire Four Seasons hotel who may have witnessed the heated exchange included Penelope Cruz, Lindsay Lohan, Leonardo DiCaprio, Chris Rock, Drew Barrymore, Sienna Miller and Jamie Foxx.

The other big story of the night was Sean Combs aka “Diddy” being dissed by CAA.

The hip-hop mogul arrived with his entourage at the Sunset Tower Hotel at a party hosted by members of Hollywood's Creative Artists Agency (CAA), and according to one witness, was verbally towards hotel security when he was told his name was not on the guest list. Hotel owner Jeff Klein asked the star to leave, which reportedly caused Combs to shout back, "What are you going to do - call the police? Just try it - I'll spend the rest of my life hunting you down!" Combs and his entourage left soon after the exchange. Combs was allegedly banned from CAA parties after an incident several years ago when he lost his temper with an assistant to CAA co-chief Bryan Lourd, who was hosting an Oscar party - according to PageSix.com. But a CAA representative has refuted the claims, saying, "There is no ban on Puffy officially or unofficially. He just wasn't invited." Combs' spokesperson has denied the star was verbally abusive, saying, "Sean never said those things. He respects people's wishes and left. He went to Prince’s party instead.

The other parties were:

InStyle magazine toasted NBC's Heroes at West Hollywood's Sunset Tower Hotel; Universal celebrated its film United 93 at nearby Lucques restaurant; L.A. Confidential magazine feted Sony Pictures Classics' Volver star Penelope Cruz at Whiskey Blue inside Westwood's W Hotel; New Line's Robert Shaye welcomed a select group to his hillside estate; and HBO celebrated at Chateau Marmont.

Pre- Parties started with Sunday's the British Academy of Film and Television Arts/Los Angeles' annual Tea Party at the Four Seasons Hotel in Beverly Hills, followed by Lionsgate and Showtime's party at the Sunset Tower. On Monday, of course, the Beverly Hilton was the place to be for the 64th annual Golden Globe Awards afterparties. Late-nighters celebrated during CAA's bash at Sunset Tower and Reveille Prods.' gathering for ABC's Ugly Betty and NBC's The Office at Les Deux Hollywood.

E! Entertainment Television's party was among this year's coolest bashes -- literally. Co-sponsored by the Environment Media Assn. and Lexus, the tented party attracted talent with its cause but didn't keep them long, as guests sought out warmer ground at enclosed parties. "I believe strongly in what the (EMA) are doing here," said recording artist Pink, who toughed out the 40-degree temperatures until the end of KT Tunstall's set. "The fact that Los Angeles feels like Antarctica only punctuates the point." -- Ada Guerin

With its eclectic mix of A-listers, it's no wonder that InStyle/Warner Bros.' perennially hot bash at the Oasis Court draws comparisons to Vanity Fair's Oscar soiree. Where else might one see Clint Eastwood and Steven Spielberg chatting with Sean "Diddy" Combs, or Cameron Diaz holding court with Leonardo DiCaprio as Justin Timberlake makes the rounds? Plenty of winners were on hand, including "Ugly Betty" creator Silvio Horta, who was still reeling from his show's best comedy series win. "It's surreal," he said. "I don't know what's happened in the past hour and a half, but it's good!" -- Michael Burr

Many partygoers made their first stop the 20th Century Fox bash, where News Corp.'s Rupert Murdoch powwowed with Brian Grazer, Chris Rock chatted up executives, and the studio's Jim Gianopulos greeted guests. The Stardust Room saw a cadre of burgeoning talent such as Fox Searchlight's Little Miss Sunshine directors Valerie Faris and Jonathan Dayton, who buzzed about the film's wild ride, which began at the 2006 Sundance Film Festival. Winner Sacha Baron Cohen made an appearance, while his "Borat" co-stars Ken Davitian and Luenell made the most of the passed appetizers and free-flowing bar. -- Nicole Sperling

Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu broke into a spontaneous workout during Paramount's party, held at the former Robinsons-May store adjacent to the hotel. Using his Globe statuette as a dumbbell, the Babel producer-director performed a series of bicep crunches. "Ah, this is what it's good for," he joked. Meanwhile, Steven Spielberg chatted with Sacha Baron Cohen in a private corner, and Paramount's Brad Grey soaked up the accolades for the studio's double win for "Babel" and Paramount/Dreamworks' Dreamgirls. "I just got an e-mail from my son, who's a freshman in college, and it said, 'Dude, good job,'" he said. -- Tatiana Siegel

It was anything but all work and no play at the NBC Universal/Focus Features soiree on the hotel's rooftop. The Office staff posed for pictures with Hollywoodland's Ben Affleck, while the ultimatum boss, Donald Trump, looked on. Other bosses, real and fictional, made the rounds, as NBC's Jeff Zucker congratulated the network's nominees and winner Alec Baldwin of "30 Rock" -- who just plays an executive on television -- received praise from co-star Tina Fey. -- Michelle Grabicki

Despite the presence of heat lamps at the Weinstein Co. party, the chilly weather divided the bash into two camps. The Grindhouse gang Robert Rodriguez, Rosario Dawson, Rose McGowan and MGM/The Weinstein Co.'s Bobby crowd Emilio Estevez, Sharon Stone, Christian Slater, Freddy Rodriguez listened to tunes spun by DJ Pesce in the warm tent, while Bob and Harvey Weinstein played host to such honchos as News Corp.'s Rupert Murdoch, WMA's Jim Wiatt and producer Mike Medavoy at Trader Vic's. -- Anne Thompson

Andy Roddick's Back

Photo: Ezra Shaw

The first Grand Slam event of the season got off to a very dramatic start today at the Australian Open. Andy Roddick is back and playing better than ever. Roddick beat No. 1 Roger Federer in the eight-man exhibition tournament, the Kooyong Classic, in Melbourne just two days ago. This was Andy’s first win over Roger in over three years. And who can forget his spectacular performance at the 2006 US Open.

Andy found himself down a set against Jo-Wilfried Tsonga of France after losing the first in a breath taking tie breaker. Roddick then found himself down, 2-5, in the second set before he came back and closed out the match, 6-7 (18), 7-6 (2), 6-3, 6-3.

We never cover sports here at The Hollywood Bureau, however, we are very impressed with Andy, and not only on the court – Roddick’s charitable work to raise money for various children charities in Texas and Florida proves that this ace has substance that carries him way beyond the tennis court.

Beckham Mania Reaches US

Victoria Beckham, former Spice Girl and wife to soccer great David Beckham, arrived in Los Angeles today, where her husband is to play with the Los Angeles Galaxy of MLS and where the couple presumably will make their new home. Beckham landed at Los Angeles International Airport aboard a British Airways flight from London shortly after 3 p.m. Paparazzi pushed and shoved around Beckham and security guards as she raced through the airport's international terminal to a black sport utility vehicle waiting outside. Beckham, who wore a gray cap, white blouse, black slacks and sunglasses, did not answer questions from the swarming media.

She was trailed by soccer intrigue from Spain, where the coach of her husband's team said David Beckham will no longer play with Real Madrid, just practice. The development came as news to the star midfielder, according to one of his representatives.

Formerly known as Posh Spice of the Spice Girls, the 32-year-old singer was headed to California to look at homes and schools for their children, said one of David Beckham's spokesmen, who spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to publicly discuss details of the trip before Victoria's arrival in the United States. The spokesman said Victoria had planned to visit Los Angeles for some time and will be there for a number of days. He declined to discuss in which neighborhoods Victoria was house hunting.

The Galaxy and Beckham agreed earlier this week to a five-year deal believed to be worth about $250 million. He is expected to join the team in August.

Celebrities Invade Telluride Colorado

A few of us from The Hollywood Bureau decided over a month ago that we would spend our New Years Holiday in the mountains of Telluride, Colorado.

We had no idea that some of Hollywood's most A-List celebrities were planning on joining us too. Telluride, Colorado's chic Mountain Village played host this holiday weekend to Telluride locals and newlyweds Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes, Daryl Hannah, Matt Damon, Jessica and Ashley Simpson and even Madonna and Guy Ritchie.

Telluride has become the "new Aspen" -- but way cooler than Aspen ever was or will be. Celebrities have began to flock to the low key atmosphere of Telluride leaving the glitz and glam of Aspen behind. And we can't blame them -- we absolutely love it here in Telluride, and plan on coming back very soon!!!
